Motorists plying Wiayaki Way were Wednesday forced to seek alternative routes in a bid to access various destinations.

This is after a section of rowdy protesters barricaded the road at Kangemi Stage blocking vehicles moving to and from the Westlands area.

Those affected were motorists seeking to access Westlands and Nairobi Central Business District.

Those going to Mountain View, Uthiru and Kikuyu areas were also affected.

The dual road was blocked using stones and the protesters also lit bonfires on the busy road.

Tear gas canisters were lobbed to disperse the protesters who retaliated by throwing stones at the police.

Matatus plying the route were forced to drop passengers going to Kangemi at Mountain View.

Motorists going to town were forced to take a detour at Qaribu Inn to snake their way through the leafy suburbs of Loresho-Kabete in order to access Waiyaki Way again at ABC junction.
