National Assembly Deputy Minority leader Robert Mbui has dismissed claims that the Opposition wants to impeach President William Ruto.

Speaking on Monday, the MP said the Opposition wants the world to know how Kenya is unhappy with Ruto's decisions.

"We are not interested in impeaching President Ruto. We want to delegitimise Kenya Kwanza, let the world know that this government is taking the country on the wrong trajectory and its people are unhappy," Mbui said on Citizen Tv.

"The impeachment process is defined in the Constitution."

However, the MP said Kenyans will decide what they want to do with the signatures.

Addressing a Saba Saba rally at Kamukunji Grounds in Nairobi, Azimio Leader Raila Odinga said the coalition targets 10 million signatures by next Friday, July 14.

The decision, Raila said, was necessitated by the government’s failure to address the opposition’s grievances including punitive taxes, high cost of living, electoral fraud and biased recruitment of electoral commissioners.

MP Mbui said that the signature collection exercise will however not go in vain.

He questioned, If the exercise is futility, why are the Kenya Kwanza leaders ranting about it?

"We will find a way and by the time the 10 million signatures are done, Kenyans will decide what to do with them as the power lies with the people. It will not be in vain," Mbui said.
