The Moja Expressway Company has announced that the Nairobi Expressway will be temporarily closed on Saturday and Sunday.

In a statement on Monday, the company said this will be done to allow for the Nairobi City Marathon, which is scheduled to take place on July 2.

"Please note that the Nairobi Expressway will be temporarily closed from Saturday July 1, 2023, at 10 pm to Sunday, July 2, 2023 at 4 pm as we host the 2nd edition of the Nairobi City Marathon," the notice reads.

Motorists have been asked to plan their journeys on the said dates.

"We kindly request all motorists and commuters to plan their journeys accordingly."

The Marathon was set for May 21 but was postponed to July 2, following a clash with another charity race that was happening the same day.

“We were unaware of a different run happening on the same day across the road. In the true spirit of charity and sportsmanship, we are therefore happy to leave the day for them and push ours forward to allow them to meet their planned charity and community objectives,” the statement read.

Last year, Brimin Misoi and Agnes Barsosio braved the chilly weather to win the inaugural race in course leading time of 2:09.30 and 2:24.45 and bagging six million shillings winner’s prize money.
