President William Ruto will visit the Republic of Djibouti on Saturday to participate in the 14th Ordinary Assembly of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD).

In a statement released by the State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed on Saturday,  Ruto will engage in bilateral talks with his Djibouti counterpart President Ismail Omar Guelleh during the visit.

The talks are aimed at strengthening and deepening the existing ties between Kenya and Djibouti.

“The discussions will cover various areas of mutual interest, including trade relations, collaboration in the field of green energy, as well as the pursuit of regional peace and security,” reads the statement.

 In addition, Ruto will also address members of the Djibouti parliament.

The summit which is expected to take place on June 12, 2023, will mark the first IGAD summit since 2019.

It will emphasize the importance of promoting regional diplomacy and cooperation.

“The summit will witness deliberations on critical regional matters, with a particular focus on the situation in Sudan, as well as the overall state of peace and security in the region,” reads the statement.
