Interior CS Kithure Kindiki has said schools that were vandalised by bandits and closed down in West Pokot will be reopened.

He said the government has set aside Sh100 million for reconstruction of the institutions by Kenya Defence Forces with support from NYS officers.

"All schools that were vandalised by bandits and armed criminals in West Pokot County will immediately be reconstructed by the Kenya Defence Forces, supported by NYS officers, reopened and more teachers recruited and deployed to ensure learning resumes fully and continue uninterrupted," he said.

Kindiki spoke on Thursday during a security meeting in West Pokot County.

The CS assured the residents in insecurity prone areas of North Rift, Upper Eastern, North Eastern and Upper Coast regions that the government was taking measures to keep them safe.

This include the primary aim to silence the illegal guns and restore law and order.

"Once the armed criminals are neutralised and all firearms illegally in the hands of civilians are recovered, the government will roll out an extensive martial plan to develop these regions," he said.

Some of the development plans are improvement of infrastructure, agriculture and education.

These, Kindiki noted, are a critical pillar in the country's economic growth and future.

At the same time, he directed the establishment of the Lami Nyeusi GSU Camp in Sigor Constituency.

"We shall establish more formed units in areas that are insecure and bring in specialised officers and equipment to deal with complex security threats such as banditry and terrorism," he adde.

Further, he also directed the establishment of seven new Divisions and other administrative units.
