Kathiani MP Robert Mbui has warned leaders who make Kenyans' lives intolerable that they will be voted out in 2027.

Speaking in an interview with Citizen TV on Monday, Mbui said Kenyans are watching and they will not forget their leaders' actions during the 2027 general elections.

“In another four and a half years, we will be going back to the ballot, and I can tell you Kenyans will not forget... They are watching those people who make their lives unbearable. And in a few years, they will vote them out.”

He added that the cost of living in the country is too high and the government should not make it worse by raising taxes.

“I'm concerned if they are listening to the voice of Kenyans. Are they not aware that we are at an all-time economic low and Kenyans are seriously suffering? Even just putting food on the table is a tall order for Kenyans,” Mbui said.

“I would say that taxation is not necessarily a bad thing. Raising taxes at a period when the country is going through serious economic challenges, is the mistake.”

Speaking during the 60th Madaraka Day celebrations in Embu, President William Ruto said the high cost of living being experienced in the country is keeping all leaders awake, including himself.

Ruto expressed his satisfaction with the debate being generated by the Finance Bill.

He said the bill has changed the national discourse in the country from a political discussion that had been witnessed in the country in the recent past.

In the proposed bill, Kenyans are expected to contribute 3 per cent of their gross income to the housing levy.
