Mavoko MP Patrick Makau has called on teachers across the country alongside other education stakeholders to be protective of schools to instill morals in our children.

Makau said the institutions’ management shouldn’t allow individuals, groups, organizations or those of questionable faiths and beliefs into them to avoid brainwashing, misleading and corrupting children’s morals.

He cited lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning (LGBTQ) and questionable churches as examples of things that shouldn’t be allowed in schools whether the institutions are public or private.

“Within this year, the Supreme Court passed the law of LGBTQ. That’s not Christian, not African. Don’t be cheated students. Say no to such including Illuminati, they are satanic,” Makau said.

The legislator who doubles as a commissioner in the Parliamentary Service Commission spoke during a thanksgiving day at Athi River secondary school in his constituency within Machakos County on Friday.

On churches and religion, Makau condemned the ‘Shakhahola’ incident stating that such shouldn’t be allowed in society. He said questionable preachers with weird doctrines shouldn’t be allowed not only in our schools but in the country to avoid brainwashing citizens to death.

Athi River secondary school has over 800 students. It took 26 students to university in the year 2021, while 32 others managed to secure admissions to various universities in 2022.

Makau lauded the school for maintaining its sterling performance over the years despite that it’s a mixed-day public school with vulnerable students whose majority hail from Athi River slums like Kasuitu, Njoguini, Kwa Mang’eli, Slota, KMC and Sofia.

“I encourage teachers and principals in Mavoko constituency to emulate those of Athi River secondary school with love, not jealousy so that together we bring education standards in this sub county to even higher levels,” Makau said.

“Before I became Mavoko MP, there were only six public secondary schools and 24 public primary schools. Today, we have 14 public secondary schools with two pending registration and 36 public primary schools in the constituency,” Makau said.

He told parents to invest in their children’s education for a better future noting that educated youth are more empowered.

Makau said improving educational infrastructure was a key focus of his quest to contribute to the overall improvement in the quality of education in his constituency.

"I feel very humbled and enthusiastic about being part of Athi River secondary school’s prize-giving day. The school is beating all odds to claim significant space in the academic hall of fame,” Makau said

Various students and teachers were awarded for their academic excellence during the event.
