Eight of the 11 students of Mukumu girls high school who were hospitalised on Friday are still receiving treatment at the adjacent St Elizabeth Mukumu mission hospital.

Three of the students who suffered malaria attack were discharged Saturday morning.

Eight of the sick students complained of abdominal pains and fatigue, similar symptoms to those exhibited by most of the students who suffered food poisoning at the school in March.

The school principal Sister Jane Mmbone said there was no cause for alarm as the students were responding well to treatment.

“Other students reported back to school before fully recovering and their conditions being closely monitored,” she told the Star on the phone.

The school was closed for three weeks on April 3 after the death of three students following an outbreak of diarrhea.

The school boarding mistress Juliana Mujema also dies of suspected food poisoning.

The government later confirmed that the death at the school was caused by food poisoning. Students started reporting back on Tuesday.

The government destroyed 800 bags of maize, beans and rice that were in the school stores last week for being contaminated.
