Azimio MPs in Parliament will not allow proposed amendments to the Finance Bill, 2023 to see the light of the day, Nyando MP Jared Okello has said.

Okello noted that the Finance Bill presented by President William Ruto has only one objective which is to fleece innocent workers.

He said they will not have a government which wants to take 60 per cent of people's pay, leaving them to run their affairs with just 40 per cent of their income.

"As legislatures within Azimio, we shall not accept this. This is unacceptable," he said during a relief food distribution drive at Migingo evacuation center in Nyando.

The MP said leaders who will vote for the Bill will be have their names published so that people can see who is not on the right side of history.

"We shall equally publish the names of those who will vote against the Bill so that the electorates know where they stand and who are with them," he said.

This comes days after Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna said Azimio and its members will do everything humanly possible to ensure the Bill flops on the floor of the House.

“We wish to make it clear from the outset that as a party, we will try our best to ensure that this anti-people budget is not passed by the National Assembly,” he said.

The move to introduce more taxes comes even as workers' unions continued to decry implementation of the planned tax regimes and urged Parliament to reject the proposed amendments in the Bill.

The Finance Bill, 2023, stipulates the revenue measures the Kenya Kwanza government wants to implement in the next financial year, starting July 1.

Last week, the National Treasury submitted the Bill to the National Assembly for processing ahead of approval of the 2023/24 Budget estimates.
