A member of Kiambu county assembly has asked Mt Kenya leaders to join hands and lobby for the introduction of one man, one vote, one shilling in national revenue allocation.

Lari Kirenga MCA Josphat Kinyanjui on Monday said a lot of issues are done halfway owing to little funds allocated to some services like the bursary.

Kinyanjui said issues like school fees affect nearly all families, adding that the issue of bursaries needs to be handled with the population of an area in mind.

He said his ward has more than 20,000 residents and the students from needy families who sought for bursary support were 15,000.

The MCA said that the available funds benefited only 400 people, meaning that more than 14,000 were left out.

He spoke at his office when distributed cheques to the needy parents.

“We appeal to all our leaders in Mt Kenya region, be they MCAs, MPs, senators and governors to support the introduction of one man, one vote, one shilling issue so that we can benefit” he said.

“In some counties, nearly all students from the needy families get the bursary support.”

The ward rep said that the revenue allocation towards other kinds of development was also not enough, adding that it needs to be released owing to the wards, constituencies and  thecounty’s population.

However, he applauded Governor Kimani Wamatangi for coming up with a strategy that will see bursary fees being awarded to the needy parents three times in a year.

Kinyanjui also urged the MPs to consider stopping the government from implementing the taxation bill since it would affect the country economically.

He said that he does not support the move to add the MCAs salaries, adding that they need to serve their constituents.

“Our constituents are the ones who need to determine if we the MCAs can be added salaries. I thank the people of this ward for considering to elect me even if I am a person living with disability. I was not earning anything, I was poor. The salary I am getting is enough,” he said.
