President William Ruto's younger brother David Ruto was among notable guests who attended Kanu Party leader Gideon Moi's son's wedding in Kericho on Saturday.

Kigen Moi wedded Rebecca Chepchumba at a private ceremony on Saturday.

David was accompanied by his wife Carol Ruto to the event.

His attendance came as a surprise to many considering of the long-running political differences the two families have had in the past.

The Kanu party leader backed ODM leader Raila Odinga in the August polls in what was viewed as an escalation of political rivalry between the two most prominent political families in Rift Valley.

The rivalry dates back to when President Ruto, then deputy president, was allegedly blocked from seeing the late former president Daniel Moi months before he died on February 4, 2020.

The attendance of the president's brother fueled speculation that the two families could possibly have buried the hatchet and resolved to work together.

It also comes in the wake of reports that the Kanu party leader has closed ranks with Ruto.

In March, Ruto's government gave Gideon a license of operation in the generation and supply of power.

Energy CS Davis Chirchir visited Menengai geothermal fields where he inspected the construction of a geothermal power plant by Sosian Energy.

The company's director is Kigen.

Chirchir said Sosian is expected to generate 35MW of electricity.

"We are quite impressed with the developments. We have inspected what Sosian is doing and they have a commercial operation date at the end of June, but they are ahead of time and they should be able to deliver in a short while some 22 megawatts of electricity," he said.

Kigen's wedding on Saturday was attended by other public figures including former Energy CS Charles Keter and Lieutenant General Mohamed Badi.
