Interior CS Kithure Kindiki will on Friday afternoon make his second visit to Shakahola in Kilifi county.

The visit will be his second, in less than one week.

In a communication seen by The Star, Kindiki said the government has intensified search efforts for people believed to be hiding in Shakahola.

The CS will oversee the search operation, as the government speeds up the search and rescue operation in the 800-acre land.

"The Government has upscaled the search and rescue efforts for persons suspected to be holed up in the thickets in Shakahola, Kilifi County. Returning to Shakahola this afternoon to oversee the ongoing operation. The multi-agency security team is doing its best to save as many lives as possible," Kindiki said.

He added that a public information, tracing, and support centre has been established to offer assistance and receive enquiries from members of the public.

On Tuesday, the CS visited the area and declared the 800-acre parcel of land in Shakahola occupied by Mackenzie followers a disturbed area and security operation zone.

“The entire 800-acre parcel of land that is part of the Shakahola ranch is hereby declared a disturbed area and an operation zone. The multi-agency security team will upscale the search and rescue mission to save as many lives as possible,” he said.

The number of bodies recovered in relation to the cult linked to Pastor Paul Mackenzie has so far reached 108, as of Thursday.

The CS said they will charge the leader of the cult Paul Mackenzie with serious charges.

“Over and above charging Mr Mackenzie with terrorism, I'm convinced that a case can be built for charging him and his collaborators with genocide.”

Televangelist Ezekiel Odero has also been arrested in relation to the bodies exhumed from the Shakahola land.
