The government is tightening the noose on a number of politicians and top commanders facilitating banditry in the North Rift.

Interior CS Kithure Kindiki said on Wednesday that the government has identified high-profile politicians at different levels who are aiding banditry.

The CS said intelligence collected so far points to a well-coordinated enterprise involving several politicians and influential individuals financing banditry.

"We have in our radar a number of politicians of different cadre whose actions have been linked to the support and funding of the banditry," he said.

Speaking at the Senate on Wednesday, the CS said they have gathered evidence that links the politicians and other people to the activities of the bandits.

"We have evidence which we are at the tail end and soon we expect high profile arraignments of politicians and bandits commanders," the CS said.

"We want to build a strong case that will be successful in court."

The CS said a bandit attack in Kainuk in Turkana South earlier this year left in its train strong evidence that links high-profile politicians to the banditry enterprise.

The CS added that a notorious commander of the bandits was arrested and arraigned last week.

The commander has given the security officers crucial leads that will soon lead to high-profile arrests and arraignment.

"He is helping us to fill in the gaps in the ongoing investigations and soon we will make high-profile arraignments of politicians and bandits commanders,'" he said.
