Counties to get Sh385 billion as Ruto allies vote to pass bill

With the vote, the Bill now heads to the President for assent to become law.

Counties will now get Sh385 billion in the next financial year after President William Ruto's allies capitalised on their numerical strength to pass a bill.

Some 25 legislators voted in favour of the Division of Revenue Bil, 2023, outnumbering Raila Odinga's allies who had pushed for an amendment to give the counties Sh407 billion.

 

Those who voted nay were zero. Minority senators stormed out of the chamber during the voting.

The Kenya Kwanza lawmakers voted to approve the Bill as drafted by the National Treasury and passed by the National Assembly.

With the vote, the Bill now heads to the President for assent to become law.
