Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has urged State Corporations Boards to help the government resuscitate the economy under the Kenya Kwanza Bottom-Up Transformation Agenda.

Speaking on Wednesday during the Induction of Board Members of State Corporations in Naivasha, Mudavadi said they have a duty to make profits or face privatization.

"There will be no room for laxity, and the era of 'WAZIRI AMESEMA' is over," he said.

Mudavadi challenged them saying their appointment does not give them a latitude to play politics or siphon from State Corporations.

The Prime Cabinet CS told Board Members of State Corporations that the Board is not a retirement home.

"You have to cultivate the culture of the Kenya Kwanza Government; pursuit of excellence guided by the Principles and Values of Professionalism, Integrity, Loyalty, Positive Work Ethics, Results Productivity and Discipline," he said.

Mudavadi also urged state entities to clear pending bills for contractors.

He said State Corporations are overly dependent on the exchequer.

"In 2021/22, the total budget estimates for State Corporations were in excess of Sh320 billion. During the same period, they had a maximum fiscal exposure of Sh1.3 trillion," he said.

"You will earn your keep in the new appointment if your corporation turns in a profit because you led by example. Your conduct will therefore model the way the corporation performs."

He said the government is in a hurry to transform State Corporations since Kenya Vision 2030 expires in seven years’ time.

"Our focus is therefore the next 30 years up to 2063 when the country celebrates 100 years of independence," he said.

He urged them to stick to ethical foundations.

"Don’t justify wrongs. Don’t live a lie because you are benefitting. I am saying don’t overlook corruption. Ensure the Public Officer Ethics Act is strictly complied with. Start with submission of wealth declarations by Boards, Chief Executive Officers and Staff at the start, mid and end of contract terms," he added.
