Senate Majority leader Aaron Cheruiyot has termed opposition demand to open IEBC servers as idle talk.

Speaking on Tuesday, the Senator claimed that they have dealt with some characters long enough to know what they are insinuating by opening servers.

He said there was no law in place that can compel the government to open servers, saying such are blackmails that Kenya Kwanza will not give in to during bi-partisan talks.

“Azimio tells us If we don't open the servers, we'll go back to the streets, and many sad stories that we are used to, you know, because we have dealt with them long enough, same characters, never change. This issue is completely bar talk,” Cheruyiot said.

Led by Azimio leader Raila Odinga, the opposition has been at the forefront in demanding for the opening and audit of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission servers.

Raila has since rejected results from the 2022 August polls, saying the government is illegitimate.

The opening of the servers and the high cost of living were among the demands Raila laid bare for Ruto to address before having any dialogue.

Raila has been leading a series of rallies and anti-government demonstrations to address the high cost of living among other issues.

Two weeks ago, Raila accepted an appeal from President William Ruto to halt countrywide demonstrations and embrace a bi-partisan approach.

However, Raila came up with fresh demands ahead of the bi-partisan approach.

Raila said that Ruto must address the high cost of living, the audit of servers by experts and reconstitute IEBC among others.

He claimed some people were trying to tamper with the August 2022 election servers.

But arguing his case on the issue of idle talk, the UDA Senator said it's the ballot boxes that are the primary source of data and Azimio was given a green light for the boxes to be opened during the presidential petition

“Azimio was given the opportunity by the Supreme Court and told to pick 46 ballot boxes from different parts of the country just as a sample and you know, statistics is about sampling. Because you couldn't open 46,000 ballot boxes,” Cheruyiot said.

“They were brought before the Supreme Court, ballot papers were counted, one after the other. They all tallied from ballot box number one to the last one.”

He said the Azimio lawyers agreed to the filings which were signed in the Supreme Court for that particular exercise.

“It is after this that the judges in the Supreme Court said my good people, I'm afraid you don't have a case. This election was conducted in strict compliance with the law and the rest of that particular matter. Now they want servers to be open?” Cheruyiot posed.
