Interior CS Kithure Kindiki on Saturday evening dispatched an investigative team to Chuka, Tharaka Nithi County following the death of two people.

In a statement, Kindiki said the team will investigate and recommend legal action against those found responsible for the death of the two people.

"The death of the two people caused the blocking of the Embu- Meru Highway most of the afternoon today. Any person(s) at whom evidence will point shall face the course of justice," he said.

"Condolences to the families and friends of the two deceased persons and to the affected communities."

He urged residents to remain calm and allow investigations following which prosecution shall ensue.

This is after protesters blocked major roads to demonstrate against the two killings.

On Saturday, protesters took to the streets to demonstrate against the killing of one person last week while another was shot dead when residents engaged police in day-long running battles demanding the arrest of killers.

The irate crowd picked up the body at Chuka Hospital mortuary and dumped it at Chuka town where they blocked several roads including the Embu- Meru Highway.

Police lobbed teargas and shot in the air to disperse the mob and one more person ended up dead in the melee.

Kindiki has urged the residents to remain calm to allow for impartial investigations.
