Senator Samson Cherargei has called out Opposition leader Raila Odinga for issuing unrealistic demands.

On Tuesday, the UDA Senator claimed that Raila was looking forward to history repeating itself.

"Tinga (Raila) is hungry for power by saying that National accord like 2007/08 be done outside the constitution & parliament," Cherargei said.

On April 13, 2008,  the late Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki named a new power-sharing government, naming opposition leader Raila Odinga as prime minister.

The move ended weeks of deadlock after the deadly crisis that followed the December 27, 2007 elections.

Going further, Senator Cherargei said that Raila who lost the 2022 presidential elections should understand that the olive branch extended by President William Ruto was not based on his demands but he kept Kenyans first.

"Tinga (Raila) lost the 2022 polls, the olive branch extended by H.E Ruto was not out of fear or caving into his unrealistic demands of powersharing but about wananchi," he added.

On Sunday, President Ruto extended an olive branch to Raila and proposed a bi-partisan parliamentary process on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission commissioners’ recruitment.

The President also said he was ready to engage any leader.

"Our position is that we want to engage our brothers and sisters on the other side on issues that are important to Kenyans, them as an opposition, us as a government," Ruto said.

As a result, Raila suspended countrywide demonstrations set for Monday and listed conditions even as he readies himself for a dialogue with President Ruto.

However, Speaking from Rwanda on Tuesday, President Ruto stated that there will be no handshake with the Opposition Chief.

Raila, on the other hand, warned that they will have to go back to demos if Ruto fails to take them seriously.

The Opposition chief said that they are focused on the outcome of the truce and will not be swayed.

"We assure our people and Kenyans that our eyes are firmly on the ball, and reiterate that we shall go back to the people as the earliest sign of lack of seriousness by the other side," Raila said.
