Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna has asked National Assembly Majority leader Kimani Ichung’wah to come up with proof that former President Uhuru Kenyatta is financing demonstrations.

Sifuna said statements made by Ichung’wah regarding former President Kenyatta are unfounded and urged the Mp to present any evidence that he may have on the matter.

“He started with a false premise, something that he has not provided evidence for saying if Uhuru Kenyatta continues funding Azimio to destroy other people, we’ll also come and destroy his property,” Sifuna said.

“So, he needs to provide evidence that Uhuru Kenyatta is the one financing Azimio. In the absence of that proof then you cannot call it a cautionary statement.”

He reiterated the Azimio coalition’s resolve to ensure their supporters do not engage in any acts of violence that may lead to the destruction of property.

“I want to give this assurance, we as the leadership of Azimio are very clear, we have told our supporters that our problem is not with anybody’s private businesses.

"That is not out beef because attacking somebody’s supermarket does not result in you getting IEBC to be reconstituted in a fair manner,” he said.

“Those people who attack private businesses have taken themselves out of the realm of the protection of the constitution. It is the responsibility of the police and even as late as last week the high court told the police that their responsibility is to protect those private businesses.”

Sifuna called on those in power to remove the police element from the demonstrations in order to ensure the protests do not get infused with any form of violence.
