Ruto nominates Gachagua's in-law to the gender commission

President William Ruto on Wednesday nominated Margaret Karungaru to be a member of the National Gender and Equality Commission.

The president forwarded her name to parliament for consideration for the position.

Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetangula relayed the message to parliament.

"I wish to convey a message from the president for the nomination of a person for appointment as a member of the National Gender and Equality Commission.

"The President conveys in the exercise of the power conferred on him by article 252B of the constitution and section six of the National Gender and Equality Commission Acts 2012 as read together section three and five of Public Appointment of the Parliamentary Approval Act Appointment Act number 33 of 2011," Wetangula said.

"He has nominated Margaret Karungaru for appointment as a member of the National Gender and Equality Commission. The President now seeks the approval of the nominee." 

Karungaru is the widow of the former governor of Nyeri, Nderitu Gachagua, the late brother Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

National Gender and Equality Commission is in charge of promoting gender equality.
