Kindiki reviews list of areas where residents should vacate

He excluded some areas in Turkana and West Pokot Counties and added some in Samburu.

Interior CS Kithure Kindiki has reviewed the directive he issued on Sunday for residents to vacate certain areas and pave way for security operations.

In the review, the CS included various areas on the list of locations where residents must vacate to allow ongoing security operations to flush out bandits.

"Ng’elecha Hills and Gorges, Ramacha and Losokoni Caves, Laramoru Gorges, Karau Hills, Noosidan Escarpment, Rugus Caves and the Amaya Gorges at the interface of Baringo, Laikipia and Samburu Counties are hereby included in the orders," Kindiki said. 

He said as earlier directed, members of the public should vacate the areas within 24 hours commencing Monday at 7.30 pm.

"Any member of the public found in the spaces specified in this paragraph after Tuesday 14th March 2023 1930 hours will be treated as a suspect of armed banditry, or as a suspect of aiding and abetting banditry, or an accessory after the fact," he said.

Meanwhile, Kindiki excluded various areas from the list he released on Sunday and are now not affected by the order. 

"Kapelbok, Nakwamoru, Lobokat, Lokoron, the Turkwell Escarpment and Ombollion areas within Turkana and West Pokot Counties are hereby excluded from the orders," Kindiki said in a statement on Monday. 

He said members of the public are advised to continue with their daily activities, subject to the security measures he Gazetted on Sunday where applicable.
