Toto cited female genital mutilation, wife battery, disease and shrinking income streams as among the challenges affecting efforts to free women.

"To move forward, society needs a conscious and deliberate withdrawal from all that affects our women, we must push the women to take their space," Toto said.

She was speaking at Kenyenya Playground in Bomachoge Borabu.

She also urged the electorate to vote more women into leadership.

She said already those elected and in the office are a convincing example of the potential women have.

Okenyuri, on her part, asked women to capitalize on early treatment to stem diseases that weigh them down during their prime years

She said women naturally forget to invest in their health even when it is apparent that they are engaged in work that predisposes them to health hazards.

And speaking at Kisii Prisons, Kisii Law Court Deputy Registrar Dorcas Mac’andere said women in prisons ought to be recognised and celebrated in a special way.

“Today we have learnt a lot from them, the challenges they face and how they can be helped such that once they get out of prisons, they get reformed and then be incorporated into the society,” she said.

Kisii Governor Simba Arati's wife May told the female prisoners to be brave while serving their terms.
