Dagoretti North MP Beatrice Elachi has said that police officers shouldn’t have denied Raila Odinga entry to the DCI offices.

Elachi said the offices were a public institution and it was difficult to understand why officers denied former Prime Minister Raila Odinga access to the premises.

“I think it was just proper for his excellency the former Prime Minister to just walk in, I think he was just walking in solidarity with Matiang’i and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that, I doubt whether he had brought in any conflicts,” Elachi said on K24 on Wednesday.

“The same way others walk in is the same way he walks in, and maybe if he came in with supporters they would have waited from outside. There was nothing wrong with that unless they tell us this is wrong.”

She said explaining the entry procedure to Raila would have greatly helped to ensure that no unnecessary drama was created concerning the walking-in matter.

“Why we create issues in our country is we take an issue that we can resolve so quietly without bringing drama, without making it even now become a political issue by just stating what are the rules and regulations,” she said.

Azimio leader Raila Odinga was on Tuesday barred from getting into the Directorate of Criminal Investigations headquarters where former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i had been called to record a statement.

Raila told off the police officers who denied him from accessing the DCI headquarters.

"I am a public officer, I cannot be barred from a public office, I have to see the director, what law is that," Raila said.
