Kiambu governor Kimani Wamatangi has urged leaders to unite and work for the people.

The governor said this on Monday after he visited a family that lost their loved one last week

Wamatangi cited that some leaders are out to tarnish his name ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He said that some leaders have been intimidating him with impeachment noting that he will stand with the people who elected him.

"I'm not a coward and I will not engage in politics of verbal wars. Allow me to work for the people of Kiambu," Wamatangi said.

He noted that some leaders eyeing the governor's position have been inciting the electorates against him.

He said that there is no tag of war between him and the leaders.

"Kiambu is safe and there are no wars as it has been alleged. Cartels have ganged against me with intent to steal public money," he said.

The governor said his administration is ready to seal all the loopholes the cartels have been using to siphon public funds in the pretence of service delivery.

Wamatangi reiterated that his administration’s fight against corruption in the county is unstoppable and that eliminating the vice is his ‘priority project’.

The governor said his zeal and vigour to dismantle corruption cartels, which had emptied county coffers, is gradually materializing.

About a week ago, Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba petitioned Wamatangi to either work or she (Wamuchomba) rally locals not to pay taxes.

Wamuchomba claimed that the governor has been unable to deliver campaign promises.

Thika MP Alice Ng’ang’a had also accused Wamatangi of neglecting Thika Level Five Hospital.

The governor and members of the county Assembly recently agreed to work together for the people of Kiambu.

On Thursday last week, Wamatangi told the Star that he will release Ward bursaries this week to help the less fortunate in society.

The governor said the slight delay in the release of the bursary was because they were assembling the committees.

He noted that the process is complete since they have gazetted the committee members as required by the law.

"We are now ready to give out the bursary forms to people and once they have been submitted I will sign the cheque to release the money, " Wamatangi said.

Wamatangi said he will disburse Sh100 million, while an additional Sh100 million, which he is appropriating to the kitty through a supplementary budget will be tabled in the county assembly in March.

The kitty will be disbursed in May.
