The American Chamber of Commerce will hold a Summit in Nairobi at the end of March, President William Ruto said on Thursday.
The President said the decision followed a meeting held with Kenya's Chamber of Commerce and the US Ambassador to Kenya, Megan Whiteman at State House.
The President said the Summit will be part of ongoing efforts to deepen Kenya-US trade relations.
"Deepening trade between Kenya and the USA is a strategic opportunity for Kenyan and American entrepreneurs," Ruto said after the meeting.
"We are happy to announce that the American Chamber of Commerce will hold a Summit in Nairobi between March 29 and 30," he added.
On July 14, 2022, Kenya and the US launched the United States-Kenya Strategic Trade and Investment Partnership (STIP).
The partnership reached during a virtual meeting between then Trade CS Betty Maina and US Representative, Katherine Tai, resolved that both governments would pursue enhanced engagement leading to high-standard commitments in a wide range of areas with a view to increasing investment.
They identified Agriculture, Anti-Corruption, Digital Trade, Environment and Climate Change Action, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), and Good Regulatory Practices among the initial issues they would focus on to achieve economically meaningful outcomes.
"The U.S. and Kenyan governments will commence working within three months to develop a detailed roadmap for engagement in each of these areas," Tai said in a statement on July 14, 2022.
