Energy CS David Chirchir has said the current electricity connectivity stands at 75 per cent.

Speaking on Monday, Chirchir said that Kenya has made great strides towards universal electrification.

"In Kenya, we have made great strides towards universal electrification. Our current connectivity stands at 75 per cent of all Kenyan households, from 29 % in 2013," he said.

The CS said that the increase in connectivity makes Kenya a frontrunner in Africa.

He said that in Sub-Saharan Africa, 568 million people still lack access to electricity today, with one out of 10 people living without electricity.

World Bank Operation Manger Camille Nuamah said the flagship electricity access operation is the Kenya Off-grid Solar Access Project.

She said the project aims to increase access to modern energy services in underserved counties of Kenya to 1.3 million people.

"More than 15 million people in today lack access to reliable electricity. Achieving universal access will require scaling up efforts and investments across the full range of solutions that the government of Kenya is currently supporting," she said.
