Azimio leader Raila Odinga has warned that President William Ruto has launched an all-out assault on democracy.

The opposition leader regretted that the campaign which he said is being bankrolled by taxpayers' money, is happening when Kenyans are dying of hunger.

"The people of Kenya need to wake up to the sad state of affairs. There is an all-out push by the Kenya Kwanza regime to kill our hard-won democracy," he said.

Speaking at the Jubilee headquarters, Raila said the country's future, constitutionalism is under attack.

Raila called out Ruto for deploying soldiers to the North Rift before getting parliamentary approval as a pointer to dictatorship.

"The deployment and the crackdown of former regime officials should be a matter of concern," Raila said.

"We have never seen this kind of swift attack on our democracy now being financed by the taxpayers' money. Kenyans must wake up to this reality, the government is focusing on politics of survival and revenge."

Raila said Kenyans must wake up and resist the push to silence critics insisting that the people's barazas will continue in Kisii, Kisumu and Mombasa.
