Officers from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission on Monday arrested a subcounty administrator in Embakasi East over allegations of corruption.

The arrest followed a complaint filed by an engineer and owner of a drilling company on February 10 which prompted City Inspectorate officers from Embakasi East Ward to visit a drilling site in Utawala.

The complainant said an employee at the drilling site was arrested and taken to Soweto Police station on allegations of illegal water connection.

He was later released on Sh10,000 cash bail and directed to report to Nairobi City County offices in Embakasi on Monday.

Upon learning of the arrest, the engineer called the area subcounty administrator who advised him to visit his office in Embakasi on Saturday.

He, however, did not go since it was on a weekend.

EACC was informed that the employee visited the Embakasi subcounty offices on Monday ready to be taken to court but was asked by the suspect to pay Sh40,000 so the case can be resolved without involving the court.

The employee informed the engineer of the development, prompting him to report the matter to the EACC.

The Commission launched preliminary investigations and established that the suspect demanded for the bribe as alleged by the complainant.

Following the findings, a team of investigators accompanied the complainant to Embakasi undercover when he went to meet with the suspect in his office.

The two had a conversation in relation to the bribe and after negotiations, the suspect agreed to receive Sh30,000.

The Administrator was then arrested after receiving the bribe.

He was escorted to the Integrity Center for processing and further investigations.

The suspect has since been released on cash bail of Sh100,000 pending the outcome of the investigation.
