Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has asked President William Ruto to exercise forgiveness against his perceived enemies.

While borrowing his words from renowned theoretical physicist Albert Einstein, Ngunyi said the revenge path Ruto appears to have taken against his predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta will portray him as a weak leader.

"Dear President Ruto: Weak people revenge, strong people forgive, intelligent people, ignore," he said.

Ruto has made it clear that he is going after the families of his predecessors Uhuru Kenyatta and Daniel Moi for taxes.

Without mentioning Uhuru by name, he said people who wielded power in the previous regimes used state instruments to exempt themselves from paying taxes.

He said going forward, he will not allow this to continue under his watch.

"The good people who were used to exempting themselves from paying tax, their days are up," Ruto said.

"Every citizen must pay tax. It doesn’t matter even if they sponsor demonstrations so that they don’t pay tax. I promise them they will pay tax. There is no more exemption."

Ruto spoke on Monday during the National Assembly post-election seminar in Mombasa.

On Thursday, Uhuru's security detail was reduced in what reports said from 96 to 25 officers. Pundits read mischief in the move.

But Inspector General of Police Japheth Koome clarified that the reduction was to allow for efficient use of officers.

Ngunyi said there's no doubt Uhuru may have wronged Ruto during his reign but it would be prudent for Ruto not to seek revenge.

Ruto and Uhuru fell out with Uhuru in 2018 after Uhuru entered into a truce with ODM leader Raila Odinga through a handshake on March 9 that year.

Uhuru later backtracked on his pledge to back Ruto for the presidency and endorsed Raila who eventually lost the race to Ruto at the August polls.

"Uhuru Kenyatta did you wrong, truth be told, but to revenge is to be weak. It will destroy you," Ngunyi said in a statement on social media.
