Jubilee Party has elected Karura MCA Fiu Fiu to be the Whip of its caucus at the Nairobi county assembly.

The party’s Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni in a letter addressed to the Speaker Ken Ng’ondi notified him of the appointment.

“ In compliance with Article 18 of the Jubilee Party Constitution this is to notify you that the Jubilee Party members of the county assembly have elected Hon Fiu Fiu as their Caucus Whip,” reads the letter dated January 26, 2023.

Kioni further requested the office of the speaker to recognize, support and facilitate the said office.

To facilitate includes providing the caucus with physical office space within the assembly.

The Jubilee also affirmed that its MCAs are committed to the party and Azimio coalition.

One of the Jubilee MCAs who sought anonymity told the Star that the party wasn’t getting the recognition it deserved in the assembly.

According to the legislator, Jubilee, allied to Azimio, was only given one committee to chair, unlike UDA which has five despite being the minority.

“It doesn’t add up that Jubilee which is part of the coalition which is the majority has only one chairperson and yet we are in the coalition of the majority,” said the MCA.

The legislator further said that there might be trouble brewing at the assembly following their meeting with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Wednesday evening.

“There was tension today (Thursday) at the assembly. You could feel a different atmosphere and we dont know what will happen next,” said the MCA.

The DP in a tweet highlighted that his discussion with the MCAs on Wednesday was purely on delivering the Kenya Kwanza Plan.

The Plan has been sold as the heart and soul of President William Ruto's administration.

"It is for this reason that today, I hosted Nairobi County MCAs from our former Jubilee Party, who had paid me a courtesy call at Harambee House Annex," Gachagua said.

The six MCAs include five elected who are males and one nominated lady.

The MCAs are Anthony Kimemia ( Harambee ), Cyrus Mugo ( Ngando), Wanjiru Kariuki (Nominated), Robert Mbatia (Kariobangi South),Patrick Karani ( Utawala) Silas Matara (Dandora II) and Fiu Fiu ( Karura).

The Nairobi County Assembly has 124 MCAs, where Azimio La Umoja Coalition is the majority.

Out of the 124 MCAS, 85 are elected members while 39 are nominated.

UDA has 35 elected MCAs same as the ODM party. Jubilee has seven, Wiper four, CCK one and three are Independents.

There are 39 nominated members at the assembly.

Both President William Ruto-led UDA party and Raila Odinga's ODM each have 17 nominated MCAs.

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party has three nominated MCAs and Wiper has two.

In a scenario where Jubilee MCAs decide to join Kenya Kwanza, UDA will have the majority at the assembly.
