Three miners are feared dead at Karebe mines in Chemase Nandi County after they were allegedly attacked by workers of a rival mine.

The rival miners reportedly carried massive blasting of explosives in the mining area 2km underground.

Kerebe gold mines acting Managing director is Jeremy Froome- a Kenyan of British ancestry.

The Star was unable to get a comment from police in the area due to its topography and terrain.

The blasting occurred shortly before 6.00 PM local time.

Kerebe Gold mining company is licensed by the government of Kenya.

The new rival firm in the name of Nandi/Chemase has been allegedly operating without a known authority from the relevant ministry.

"We are still waiting for the police to arrive so we can move into the ground and remove the bodies," Albert Douglas a human resource official told the Star on phone.

He said those who set the explosives ran away immediately after they realised people had died.

Efforts to get a comment from the firm's CEO Jeremy Froome failed to say the firm's board of directors would issue a comprehensive report later on Tuesday.

The firm has had misfortunes as the mid-last year 2022, staff houses, vehicles and machinery were touched by arsonists in Chemase.

Security officers pointed an accusing finger at rival and illegal miners who want the British firm hounded out of Chemase area in Tinderet.

Kerebe gold mine is arguably the largest Commercial mine in Kenya.

Their success in extracting Gold is due to the high-level expertise they have employed in the business.

In 2020, the firms paid Kenya over Sh200m in royalties.

The mines are situated along the Nandi escapement.

Douglas said they had had meetings with the sub-County security committee under the chairmanship of Esther Oyugi after they gathered intelligence of the impending plan the illegal miners had put in place to try and expel Kerebe company.

"No action was taken leaving the company that employs over 800 people at the mercy of criminals." Douglas the official said.

He spoke to the Star on phone.
