High Court to deliver ruling on killing Muchai case

The High Court will today deliver a ruling as to whether seven people accused of killing former Kabete MP George Muchai can be released on bond.

The lawyer representing the Muchai family John Khaminwa on Tuesday told trial judge Justus Bwonwonga that the killers of the former lawmaker are people with influence in the country and not the seven people who were arraigned in 2015.

Muchai, his driver Stephen Wambugu and two bodyguards Samwel Lekakeny and Samwel Kimathi were killed on the morning of February 7, 2015, in Nairobi.

Ruto to preside over launch of National Tree-Planting Programme

President William Ruto will be at Police Leadership Academy in Ngong at 8 am and he will preside over the launch of the National Tree-Planting Programme in Ngong hills at 9 am.

Hearing of Sonko's graft case  

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko will be back in court on Wednesday for an anti-corruption case where he was charged with conflict of interest and irregular procurement.

The charges relate to conspiracy to commit an offence of corruption namely embezzlement of public funds amounting to Sh24 million from the county government of Nairobi.

Sonko is also facing up to more than 30 charges of money laundering, receiving bribes and conflict of interest.

He was first arraigned in December 2019 during which Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji accused Sonko and his associates of the misappropriation of Sh357 from City Hall.

Hustler Fund amount disbursed crosses the Sh10 billion mark

President William Ruto's Hustler Fund has reached another milestone with the amount disbursed having crossed the Sh10 billion mark.

Amount repaid has similarly hit Sh3 billion in the latest data released by Cooperatives and MSME Development Cabinet Secretary Simon Chelugui.

By 9 pm Tuesday, a total of Sh10,121,879,415 had been disbursed translating to 30 per cent of the total amount.

EACC saves Laikipia commissioner from eviction

The anti-graft agency obtained court orders rescuing the Laikipia county commissioner from imminent eviction by a private developer in Nanyuki town.

The alleged developer had fenced off the residence and was to evict the county commissioner when the orders came out.

The land initially measured 38 acres but has since been grabbed leaving only four acres for the county commissioner.

According to officials, the property is part of government land valued at more than Sh6 billion.

Elon Musk to quit as Twitter CEO when replacement found

Elon Musk has said he will resign as Twitter's chief executive officer when he finds someone "foolish enough to take the job".

The billionaire promised earlier to abide by the result of a Twitter poll which saw 57.5% of users vote "yes" to him quitting the role.

He says he will still run the software and server teams after his replacement is found.

Changes on the platform since his takeover have been much criticised.

Trump tax returns will be made public, panel votes

A committee in the US House of Representatives has voted to make public six years of Donald Trump's tax returns.

The move caps a nearly four-year legal battle by Democrats to obtain the documents, which was ultimately decided by the US Supreme Court last month.

US presidents are not required by law to release their tax returns, but for decades they have done so voluntarily.

US seizes enough fentanyl to kill every American

US federal drug agents say they seized enough fentanyl in 2022 to kill every American.

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) says they intercepted 379m potentially deadly fentanyl doses, which is just two milligrams.

The DEA described the highly addictive substance, which is 50 times more powerful than heroin, as the deadliest drug threat facing the US.

The agency says most of the fentanyl is trafficked into the US from Mexico.
