Ruto leaves country to attend US-Africa leaders' summit

The summit will help scale up measures that support resilience and recovery from the effects of Covid-19 and the climate crisis.

President William Ruto will on Monday evening leave for the United States to attend the US-Africa Leaders' summit.

The US-Africa Leaders' summit is a three day event happening between December 13 to 15.

The summit offers an opportunity for African leaders to shape the continent's partnership with the US in trade, economy, security and political relations.

In a statement, State House spokesperson Hussein Mohamed said the summit will help scale up measures that support resilience and recovery from the effects of Covid-19 and the climate crisis.

"The US is one of the largest export destinations for Kenyan products under the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), and a leading partner for Kenya's development agenda, regional peace and multilateral cooperation," the statement read.

The President will help advocate the conclusion of the Kenya Strategic Trade and Investment Partnership Agreement and support African countries' to expand US Africa trade relations through renewal of AGOA.
