"I wish to extend my deepest condolences to the family of Mark Jenkins and his son Peter, who died after their plane went down during a patrol of Tsavo East National Park. They were great conservationists who were dedicated to wildlife management and conservation in Kenya. RIP," Balala said.

The Kenya Wildlife Service said the plane which belonged to David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (DSWT) crashed in the Kone area at around 7.15 am Thursday as the duo patrolled the northeastern boundary of the park.

"KWS wishes to express our deepest sympathies and condolences to the families of the deceased," a statement from the corporate communication said.

Two years ago, a Kenya Air Force aircraft crashed on a hill in the Tsavo East and killed four people.

One wing of the plane burnt leading to the deaths of the four occupants on board.

Officials said those on board included a major, a captain and two servicemen who were en route to Mombasa to pick up a senior KDF officer.
