Senate and the National Assembly will adjourn their sittings Thursday to allow members to break for their Christmas holiday.

The MPs and the Senators have been in session since September 8 when they were sworn into office.

They had a joint sitting on September 29 after their short recess in which President William Ruto made his first address to the Bicameral Parliament.

“It is notified for the general information that pursuant to Standing order 32 of the Senate standing orders by a resolution made, the senate approved its calendar for the first session 2022,” read a notice.

Speakers of any of the Houses may, however, convene special sittings through a Gazette notice if need be as per the standing orders.

While the MPs had a short recess on October 14 to October 24, their counterparts in the Senate proceeded on October 28 to November 7.

In their calendar, the lawmakers are scheduled to meet regularly on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

The two-month-long recess is one the longest holidays in their calendar ending February 13.

It will come at a time MPs have demanded the immediate disbursement of the Constituency Development Fund.

During a recent sitting, MPs led by Minority leader Opiyo Wandayi threatened to paralyse activities if the fund is not released before they break.

“This is not an empty threat, failure to do that I will be moving members of the House to refrain from any talk of recess and to refrain from any engagements on any business, until and unless NG-CDF funds are disbursed,” he said.
