EACC warns public of impostors on the loose

The public advised to ask any EACC investigator to identify themselves first

The Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission has warned the public to stay vigilant of fraudsters posing as the Commission's investigators.

EACC CEO Twalib Mbarak further asked the public to report any suspicious persons presenting themselves as such.

He said to protect the public from possible scamming, officials have been issued with appropriate identification documents, which can be verified on request.

"Members of the public are advised to always insist to any person claiming to be an EACC Investigator to first identify themselves and further take note that any interview," Mbarak said.

The anti graft agency further warned impostors that in the event of their arrest, they will be dealt with in accordance to the law.

This comes after the Commission arrested a suspected impostor at Quiver's Lounge on Friday evening.

The suspect had attempted to defraud a miller who had been enlisted by the government to supply subsidised maize flour.

He said he was conducting investigations in the Ministry of Agriculture relating to the supply of subsidised maize flour.

He promised to assist him get any outstanding payment from the ministry in exchange for an amount of money they would agree on in a meeting.

They were to meet at EACC Integrity Center before the suspect changed location to Quivers.

The miller then contacted EACC, who conducted an arrest.
