Over 10 governor impeachment motions in 10 years

Former Embu Governor Martin Wambora was impeached by MCAs in 2014 but was reinstated by court

Since 2013 there have been at least 10 impeachment motions tabled by different county assemblies to remove their governors.

Former Embu Governor Martin Wambora was successfully impeached by the MCAs in 2014. The Senate also impeached him but he was reinstated by the court. This was less than a year after elections.

Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu was also impeached by the MCAs in 2020 and the decision upheld by the Senate. This was three years after the election.

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko was also impeached in 2020 by  MCAs and senators approved his removal from office. His impeachment also came three years after elections.

Former Wajir Governor Mohammed Abdi Mohamud was impeached by MCAs in 2021, which was four years after elections.

Kirinyaga MCAs impeached Governor Ann Waiguru in 2020 but senators returned her to office. This came three years after elections.

Former Murang'a Governor Mwangi wa Iria was also impeached by MCAs in 2015 but the motion did not pass in the Senate. It was two years after the elections.

Former Taita Taveta Governor Granton Samboja was impeached by MCAs in 2019 but senators did not pass the motion. His impeachment attempt came two years after elections.

Former Kericho Governor Paul Chepkwony was impeached in 2014 by MCAs but was reinstated by senators.
