Ex-Bumula MP cleared by IEBC to run for the Senate Seat

Former Bumula MP Mwambu Mabonga was on Thursday cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to run for the Bungoma Senate seat on the UDA party ticket.

Mwambu was handed over the UDA ticket to be the flagbearer in the Senatorial race slated on December 8.

Addressing a rally in Bungoma town on Thursday after he was cleared by the IEBC, Mwambu said that his main task after if he wins the senate race is to play his oversight role and push for the Kenya Kwanza government to implement what they promised to the Western region.

“During the August polls campaigns, President Ruto promised to do much for us. I know many are anticipating for the same. Now that my brother Wetang’ula cannot actively take part in politics, I am taking over from him and engage with the government to ensure that it is implemented,” Mwambu noted.

Mwambu was escorted by Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale and the Bungoma County UDA Chairman who doubles as the Webuye West MP Dan Wanyama.

Mwambu pointed out that soon, Members of Parliament will pass the supplementary budget that will see Hustler funds channelled down to local people as a way of ensuring that money is in the people’s pockets.

He argued that his main aim as the Senator is to ensure that the public funds that come to Bungoma are utilized well to benefit the people of the region.

“This time round we want to use this hustler administration to change the economy of this region and propel it to the next level,” he said.

The senate hopeful argued that the Senate seat is not reserved for anybody.

Mwambu noted that he will move across the entire county to ask voters to back his bid.

Webuye West MP Dan Wanyama said that they will offer all the necessary support to ensure that Mwambu captures the seat.
