Kakamega governor Barasa unveils cabinet nominees

Governor also nominated high school principal Boniface Okoth who was his campaign manager

Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa has unveiled his chief executive  cabinet members.

The new names unveiled by Barasa comprise former politicians, business people and professionals.

Barasa sent packing three executives he inherited from his predecessor Wycliffe Oparanya on October 1.

He nominated his deputy Ayub Savula as Trade, Industrialisation and Tourism executive.

Kitale’s St Joseph Boys High School principal Godfrey Owori was nominated to serve as Education Science and Technology executive.

Peninah Mukabane whom Oparanya sacked from the Agriculture docket will now oversee Lands, Housing, Urban areas and Physical Planning if approved by the county assembly.

Mukabane was dropped by Oparanya after the 2017 polls. She unsuccessfully contested the Kakamega woman rep seat after losing to Elsie Muhanda.

Andama is a former Khwisero MP. He dropped from the Kakamega senatorial race to back ODM candidate Brian Lishenga who lost to UDA’s Boniface Khalwale.

The governor also appointed the immediate Agriculture Cabinet Administration Secretary Lawrence Omuhaka as the new Public Service and County Administration executive.

Others nominated are Dr Bernard Wesonga (Health Services), Mophat Mandela (Social Services, Sports, Youth and Gender) and Patrick Wesonga (Roads and Public Works).

Marian Barasa (Water, Environment and Climate Change), Benjamin Andama (Agriculture), Rachael Atamba (ICT, e-government and communication) and Livingstone Imboyi who will head Finance and Economic Planning docket.

Barasa also nominated high school principal Boniface Okoth who was his campaign manager for the position of county secretary. 

He said that the selection of the nominees was competitive and transparent to ensure suitable individuals are picked to steer the devolved unit.
