Former Gender CS Margaret Kobia has officially handed over the National Youth Service to the new leadership.

Kobia held the Ministry of Public Service, Gender, Youth and Senior Citizens affairs under former President Uhuru Kenyatta's regime.

NYS will now be under the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Sports and Arts, headed by CS Ababu Namwamba.

Kobia said she is proud to hand over an institution that is free from the shackles of corruption and mismanagement.

“In the last 5 years, NYS has undergone a significant transformation that has enhanced good governance, financial management controls and sustainability of the Service,” she said.

NYS has previously been at the centre of a scandal that saw over Sh10 billion embezzled through fraud.

Kobia said the transformation of the institution’s operations from the Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS) to Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) has enhanced operational efficiency and effectiveness.

“These transformation efforts have led to greater transparency and accountability lack of which had seriously dented the image of the Service and threatened its existence,” she said.

He wished CS Namwamba the very best as he takes on the mantle of NYS.
