Some poll losers from President William Ruto's camp have tossed their hats in the ring hoping to be considered for the five available EALA slots.

In the list submitted in parliament on Monday, it has emerged that the Kenya Kwanza side made up of UDA, UDM, ANC, Ford-Kenya, MDG, PAA, DP and CCM parties submitted a total of 145 names.

UDA has the most number of applicants with 107, ANC (12), Ford Kenya (6), PAA (2), CCM (1), DP (1), MDG (1), DP (1) and UDM (1).

The parties are set to submit about 15 names to parliament on Wednesday ahead of the joint voting set for November 17.

The jostling for the slots is, however, so intense that while small parties are fighting hard for it in what will prove a litmus paper for the Coalition, loyalists are hoping to be rewarded.

The parties that joined late increased numbers for Kenya Kwanza in both House and are credited for the successes, especially in the election of Speakers and approval of cabinet nominees.

“The manner in which the two Coalitions manage this process will determine how the key parties will continue to remain as unified,” said Nick Salat.

Among the key figures eyeing the EALA jobs after missing out on the state appointments are former nominated MPs Wilson Sossion and David Sankok.

Sossion tried his luck in the Bomet senatorial seat but was knocked out during the primaries by senator Hillary Sigei.

Others are former Narok deputy governor Everlyn Aruasa, ex-MPs Simeon Mbugua (Starehe), Benard Bett (Bomet east), Paul Bii (Chepalungu), Abdikadir Aden (Balambala) and Yusuf Chanzu (Vihiga).

Former senator Hassan Omar (Mombasa), Mwangi Githiomi (Nyandarua), former journalist Joshua Sang, businessman Don Bosco Gichana, Fredrick Muteti, and Muchiri Njeru are also eyeing the seats.

Topping the ANC list are Sylvia Mulama who unsuccessfully vied for the Nairobi woman representative seat and Benard Muganga.

Moses Wetang'ula’s Ford-Kenya side has Bethwel Kiplagat Kirior who had been picked as a running mate by Trans Nzoia gubernatorial loser Chris Wamalwa, Joel Amuma, and Ray Barasa.

CCM of former Bomet governor Isaac Rutto has produced only one candidate Enoch Kemei who also gave a stab in the senatorial seat but lost.

Valentine Anyango who narrowly lost to Ruth Odinga in the Kisumu woman representative seat has submitted her application from the MDG party while PAA of Amason Kingi has former aspirant Frankfaith Makorani.

With the eyes set on Parliament after the nomination of the candidates, it will be interesting to see how Ruto’s side will navigate through it.
