Kenya Airways CEO Allan Kilavuka has said a disciplinary action will be taken against pilots, if they do not return to work.

Kenya Airline Pilots Association began the strike on Saturday on claims that their grievances were not heard.

Kilavuka while speaking to the press on Sunday said the company was already pursuing disciplinary action against them.

"Because of their hard stance, we have a stalemate. This is because they have given us their original proposals without any meaningful concession.

"It leaves us with no alternative but to continue with the disciplinary process that we have already initiated," he said.

Kilavuka said they are however open for talks with KALPA but on condition that the pilots first return to work.

"Having said that we are still open to talks, meaningful talks, but the most important thing is that these talks have to be held under the condition that they return to work," he said.

The CEO said the strike is illegal because the court declared it unlawful.

He said they are losing a lot of money daily with fears the monthly salary might be affected.

"Going on strike does not help, we are loosing Sh300 million per day. If this continues, it will be difficult for us to meet our salaries this month.

"So it is in their interest. Some of the demands they are pacing require finances and they have required us to do them immediately," he said.

On Sunday, KQ announced the resumption of operations for certain flights amidst the pilots' strike. It announced the resumption of six flights.

"Kenya Airways would like to confirm that the following flights are scheduled for today. The flights will cater for passengers who are already booked to travel," the statement read.
