“As we face food shortage and the prolonged drought, I am appealing to Kenyans to support the government in improving food production".

He further stated that the ministry will continue to support farmers across the country through livestock off-take programme.

During his tour of the region, the cabinet secretary met the county officials where they discussed the challenges facing the agricultural sector in the coastal region and how to improve the sector.

Noting the move will boost the Kenya meat commission (KMC), Linturi appealed to the residents to purchase meat from the facility.

He spoke when he paid a visit to the KMC plant in Kibarani area where the Kenya Defence Forces have transformed the plant to a profit making entity.

“I am appealing to the people of Mombasa to support KMC by purchasing quality meat from the institution as the National Government continues to support livestock framers by purchasing their livestock,” he said.
