It has emerged that a section of leaders from the region are on Thursday set to make a statement on the nominations that gave them a raw deal.

The two neighbouring counties did not get any slot in the Principal Secretary positions announced by State House on Wednesday.

“We are consulting widely about the strange move and will most likely make a statement on Thursday,” a senior leader from the region told the Star on phone.

He refused to go on record for fear of being seen as the one mobilising colleagues to call out Ruto.

According to the politician, the developments came to them as a big surprise.

“Our hope was that we would at least get a PS from either of the counties of Nyamira and Kisii,” he added.

However, there are cracks among Kenya Kwanza leaders from the two counties over the planned statement on Thursday with some asking that the president be given more time.

“I personally believe that it is too early to raise concerns about the President's regional balance plans, we better wait a little bit until the Chief Administrative Secretary positions have been filled,” a politician from the region said.

Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu hails from Kisii County.

This is the first time, in as many years, that the two counties have missed out on PS positions.

During retired President Uhuru Kenyatta's regime, the two counties had a total of two PSs.

During the late President Mwai Kibaki's tenure the region had three PSs.
