Two-thirds representation of women in public office is still a dream away after President William Ruto made his pick of Principal Secretaries on Wednesday.

In the list of chosen Principal Secretaries, women leaders picked were only 11 of a total of 51 positions available.

They include Teresia Mbaika Malokwe, State Department for Devolution in the Office Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua.

Esther Ngero for the State Department for Performance and Delivery Management and Aurelia Rono for the State Department for Parliamentary Affairs, both in the Office of Prime Cabinet Secretary, Musalia Mudavadi.

Caroline Nyawira Murage, State Department for Correctional Services in the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, Roseline Njogu for Diaspora Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora affairs.

Veronica Nduva Gender and Affirmative Action in the Ministry of Public service, Gender and Affirmative action, Josephine Mburu for Health Standards and Professional Management at the Ministry of Health.

Beatrice Inyangala for Higher Education and Research and Ether Thaara Muhoria for the State Department for TVET in the Ministry of Education and Susan Mangeni State Department for MSMEs, Ministry of Co-operatives and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.

Ruto’s appointment of Cabinet Secretaries had also fallen short of reaching the two-thirds quota with only seven slots for women out of 22.

President Ruto had promised to allocate 11 CS positions for women.
