Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has dismissed claims of nepotism and conflict of interest in her administration as has been alleged by the EACC.

While speaking to the media outside Milimani Law Courts on Friday, Kawira clarified that her husband is a volunteer as the youth patron and will not get any single shilling from the county.

She has also confirmed that her two sisters work for her but one of them, a bodyguard, is a police officer employed by the National Police Service and as such, she is not paid by the county government.

The second sister who is her Personal Assistant has been working with her for five years now.

"So it’s not unusual," Kawira said.

The governor further added that she has the freedom to choose her support staff from people she trusts.

She has also dismissed the impeachment petition filed against her as hot air.

Kawira said she is ready to defend herself against the allegations raised by the petitioner Selasio Thuranira and the MCAs.
