Journalist killed

Arshad Sharif died after being shot by police at a roadblock in Kajiado.

He was shot in the head and after he and his driver allegedly breached a roadblock.

A senior police officer confirmed the shooting and added a comprehensive statement will be released later.

Police headquarters said Independent Policing Oversight Authority will take over the case.

Police trial

Four Kenyan policemen accused of being behind a spate of murders, abductions and torture across the country are set to go on trial on Monday.

They were part of an elite squad that was disbanded by President William Ruto for allegedly carrying out extrajudicial killings and disappearances of suspects over several years.

Among their alleged latest victims were two Indian nationals who went missing in July and whose remains were discovered last week in a forest.

IPOA's address on extrajudicial killings

The Independent Policing Oversight Authority is set to issue a statement on extrajudicial killings in the country.

An analysis of the 2021 report by IPOA shows that police killed some 169 people and enforced the disappearance of 28 people last year alone.

Opening of Assembly

Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir is on Monday expected to officially open the third Mombasa county assembly.

The official opening of the assembly comes more than a month since the MCAs were sworn into office.

All the 30 elected and 12 nominated MCAs were also sworn into office on September 23 during a ceremony presided over by the assembly clerk Salim Juma.

Cholera cases

The Ministry of Health issued a multi-cholera outbreak alert after confirming 61 cases in six counties.

They include; Kiambu with 31 patients, Nairobi (17) and Murang'a has one patient.

Kajiado and Nakuru counties have confirmed two patients each while Uasin Gishu has eight cases. The ministry is monitoring the counties.

Road safety conference

World Health Organisation will hold a road safety conference to look at the rising burden of road crashes which result in death and permanent disability.

The meeting is at Four Points on Ngong Road.

UON Research Week

The Annual University of Nairobi Research Week 2022 will be held today at the University of Nairobi Confucious Institute.

The opening ceremony will be graced by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Stephen Kiama.

NEMA wins award

The National Environment Management Authority to receive the United Nations person of the year award from the United Nations community in Kenya for the sustained effort to beat plastic pollution.

The event will be at the Gigiri complex.

New Ebola cases

Nine new Ebola cases were confirmed in Kampala.

There are 14 new cases confirmed in the last 48 hours.

Uganda Health Minister Jane Ruth said the nine cases are contacts of a death case who arrived from Kassanda District.

Rishi Sunak is the firm favourite to replace Liz Truss as PM and could do so by as early as this afternoon.

Boris Johnson withdrew from the race to replace Liz Truss as leader of the Conservative party.
