After serving as its chairman for 10 years, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja bid the Kenya Young Parliamentarian Association farewell.

The association which now boasts more than 60 members both from the National Assembly and senate across the political divide, advocates and supports pro-youth legislation both in and out of parliament.

"It’s been an honor serving this association that we started from scratch in 2013 and achieved an unassailable record in legislation in both houses," Sakaja said.

The Governor was speaking on Tuesday during the official inaugural dinner to mark the beginning of the 13th Parliament.

The event was attended by young MPs from across the political divide.

"I wish the new team the best and commit to always be available to support and mentor more young leaders," Sakaja added.

Legislators interested to succeed Sakaja are Molo MP Kuria Kimani, South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino.

The association is currently undertaking projects like enhancing the role of young legislators in combating climate change in the country. strengthening climate action in Kenya.

With the introduction of the senate in 2013 due to the passing of the new constitution, the association incorporated young senators into its membership.

The 11th Parliament got the highest number of young parliamentarians and revived the association to be vibrant and active in championing the voice of the youth in Parliament and beyond
