Parliament to start vetting Ruto CSs on Monday

The committee will review the suitability of the 22 men and women nominated by President William Ruto to serve in the next Cabinet.

The National Assembly's Committee on Appointments will start vetting Cabinet Secretary nominees on Monday.

The date was announced by Speaker Moses Wetang'ula on Wednesday afternoon.

He said the committee will meet on Thursday for a briefing on what is expected of them.

"The committee on appointments that was debated in the morning and approved a few minutes ago will meet tomorrow, Thursday, October 13, 2022, at 11 am, at County Hall mini chamber to get a briefing on their work and consider the vetting schedule for them to start vetting the cabinet nominees on Monday," Wetang'ula said.

On Wednesday, parliament approved a 15-member committee that will vet and approve the cabinet nominees.

The Speaker is the chairperson of the committee which also has deputy Speaker Gladys Shollei, Majority leader Kimani Ichung'wah, Minority leader Opiyo Wandayi, and their deputies Owen Baya (Kilifi North) and Robert Mbui (Kathiani).

Other members include MPs Nelson Koech (Belgut), Rahab Mukami (Nyeri Woman Rep), Dido Ali Raso (Saku), Gitonga Murugara (Tharaka) and David Gikaria (Nakuru Town East).

Also on the list is Junet Mohamed of Suna East, Kwanza MP Ferdinand Wanyonyi, his Teso South counterpart Mary Emaase, Rahim Dawood (North Imenti), Saboti’s Caleb Amisi and Stephen Mule of Matungulu.

The committee also comprises Abdi Shurie (Balambala), Naisula Lesuuda (Samburu West), Pokot South MP David Pkosing and Likoni's Mishi Mboko.

The committee will review the suitability of the 22 men and women nominated by President William Ruto to serve in the next Cabinet.

It will then present a report to the House, which will approve the nominees, before sending their names to the President for the appointment.
