We'll protect female CS nominees during vetting – Elachi

Elachi claimed that men will round up and protect their fellow men thus, they must protect their women too

Dagoretti MP Beatrice Elachi has stated that female parliamentarians will protect their own who have been nominated for Cabinet  Secretary positions.

Speaking on Tuesday, she claimed that men will round up and protect fellow men thus, the need for them (women) to protect their own.

“Since they have brought men who are questionable as Cabinet nominees, no woman shall be questioned,” Elachi said on Citizen TV.

Last month, President William Ruto nominated eight women to his Cabinet, with seven picked for CS positions and one as secretary to the Cabinet.

He announced 22 appointments to Cabinet Secretary positions and two with Cabinet-level portfolios.

The nominees will be vetted by Parliament.

The women Cabinet Secretaries are Alice Wahome (Water), Aisha Jumwa (Public Service), Rebecca Miano (EAC, Arid and Semi-arid lands), Soipan Tuya (Environment), Susan Wafula (Health), Peninah Malonza (Tourism) and Florence Bore (Labour and Social protection).

The women assigned Cabinet-level portfolio was Mercy Wanjau (Secretary to the Cabinet).

A lawyer by training,  Miano, has worked at the helm of KenGen as the chief executive officer.

Malonza is the former Deputy Governor for Kitui, while Bore is the former Woman Representative for Kericho

Wahome is a strong ally of Ruto and defended her seat in the August polls as MP for Kandara.

Jumwa who is the immediate former Woman Representative for Kilifi had unsuccessfully run for the Kilifi governor seat on a UDA ticket and lost to ODM’s Gideon Mung’aro.

Tuya was the Narok Woman Representative, while Wafula, who had sought the Trans Nzoia Woman Representative position has worked in the supply chain industry for several years.
